Marvel Studios has just announced three untitled movies for their Phase 3 schedule in 2020. The three films have release dates of May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and Nov. 6, 2020. This schedule update came on the heels of another announced title.
With the success of Marvel’s Ant-Man, Marvel Studios has also officially announced a sequel to be set for July 6, 2018. The movie will be called Ant-Man and The Wasp, making it the first superhero movie to have a female hero in the title. -It only took to 2018.- Both Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne will appear as their pint-sized alter egos. There is no word yet on additional casting.
However, the announcement has led to a shift to the rest of the Phase 3 movies. With the new movie on the slate, Black Panther has been pushed up to February 2018 and Captain Marvel will now be pushed back to March 8, 2019, -because why give priority to a solo woman movie when you can have her share that honor with a man, even if it is someone as dreamy as Paul Rudd.
The announcement of Ant-Man and the Wasp may have something to do with the success of the first movie, which earned $178.5 million domestically and $231.3 million internationally for a total of $409.8 million. It is currently ranked domestically as the #9 film of the year, and opens for its final international market, China, on October 16
