It has finally arrived the trailer for the second film featuring the Michael Bay mutations that sort of resemble a cartoon show you used to watch as kids. With that said, we will admit that there is something a lot more fun and interesting about this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle trailer than anything else we have seen from the rebooted TMNT so far. For all the criticism we can give you -and there is a fair amount- we can at least say this seems to be the weirdest and most cartoonish live-adaptation of the Ninja Turtles we have ever seen.
From this trailer alone we get a look at Casey Jones, the Turtle Wagon, and everyone’s favorite mutated duo, Beebop and Rocksteady. It doesn’t even look like the producers and animators tried to make those two appear different from their late 80’s cartoon counterparts, and that makes the little kid in us scream in excitement, just a bit. It even looks as if this movie is toning down the steroid-tastic look of the turtles themselves, which is good, because that made out inner little kid scream for all different reasons.
It helps that Michael Bay is no longer attached to this movie franchise, but his stink still seems to remain. The movie looks like it will not be toning down the gratuitous sexualizing and racist stereotyping that we have come to expect from productions associated with the explode-fetish director. Still there is hope as the story for TMNT 2 has been penned by none other than Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird who were responsible for bringing us the Turtles in the first place.
Surprisingly, we at The NYRD don’t hate this movie, but watch the trailer, judge for yourself, and let us know your opinions in the comments below. TMNT 2 will hit theaters on June 3, 2016.
